Schools shine by the dozen at soccer challenge
12 local schools competed in the Central Park Spar and Empangeni High School Junior Soccer Challenge.
THE spoils were shared at the Central Park Spar and Empangeni High School Junior Soccer Challenge held on Friday and Saturday at Empangeni High.
A total of 12 local schools took to the fields to compete for the titles and bragging rights in the U15 and U16 boys and girls divisions.
A feast of goals was scored over the two days, with a high standard of football being exhibited.
Khomindlela High School took the spoils in the U15 boys section with John Ross College taking the crown in the U15 girls section on Friday.
Saturday’s action saw the U16’s taking to the fields, which saw John Ross College and Felixton College take home the titles respectively.
‘The level and standard of soccer played over the past two days was phenomenal.
‘We are so blessed to have so much talent in our region.
‘I would really like to thank Central Park Spar for their sponsorship and support which made this tournament possible,’ said EHS Marketing Officer Julie Da Silva.
The teams that participated over the two days were – Birdswood Secondary, EHS, eShowe High, Felixton College, John Ross College, Khomindlela High, Old Mill High, Richards Bay Christian School, Richem, uMhlanga College, St Catherine’s and Grantleigh Schools.
Results
U15 Boys – 1 Khomindlela High School and 2 Old Mill High School.
Player of the Tournament – Simiso Zulu (Khomindlela High School).
U15 Girls – 1 John Ross College and 2 Empangeni High School.
Player of the Tournament – Phindile Nkumang (John Ross College).
U16 Boys – 1 John Ross College and 2 Felixton College.
Player of the Tournament – Sifiso Mnchube (John Ross College).
U16 Girls – 1 Felixton College and 2 eShowe High School.
Player of the Tournament – Aphiwe Nene (Felixton College).
