POLICE arrested a 43-year-old man in eShowe yesterday for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, putting a stop to a potential assassination.
Members of the Umlazi Crime Intelligence, Provincial Tracking Team and Umhlali K9 units swooped down on the suspect after gathering information on the planned hit of an eShowe resident.
In the early hours of the morning police managed to positively identify the suspect in the Ntumeni area and subsequent to his arrest, found an AK47 rifle with 41 rounds of ammunition, two 9mm pistols with 67 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The suspect was expected to appear in the eShowe Magistrate’s Court today.
