Gym star vaults to victory

KZN colours for eight Bay gymnasts

THANKS to fine performances at provincial level, eight members of the Richards Bay Gymnastics Club have been chosen to compete for higher honours in KZN colours.

Winning one gold, three silver and four bronze medals at the recent KZN competition in Pietermaritzburg, the squad now travels to Pretoria to take part in the SA Central Zone Inter-provincial Challenge on 4-5 September.

Also making the trip as KZN coach will be Richards Bay’s Tanya Alger.

Star of the show in the ‘Burg was Matthew Röttcher, competing in the Level 3 Boys 11-13 age group.

Needing a 9.7 on his final vault, he succeeded with a near perfect 9.75 – a superb effort under pressure.

Securing second places in their respective divisions were Zenande Mncwabe (U6), Kelly Schnell (U10) and Willemien Kotze (U8), while third spots and bronze medals went to Casey Neumann (U12), Roxy Neumann (U10), Lauren Richardson (U10) and Abigail Röttcher (U10).

The Richards Bay Gymnastics Club runs coaching classes at the Bay as well as at Felixton.
