Grade 11 girl pupils are empowered to make informed career choices during the BWA Women of Tomorrow event
.
GROOMING businesswomen of tomorrow was the order of the day and for close on 200 Grade 11 girl pupils from schools across Zululand, they were exposed to various career fields in Empangeni on Thursday.
Hosted by the Businesswomen’s Association Zululand branch at the Umfolozi Casino Resort, the aim of the event was to ensure future female leaders were empowered to make a success of their entrance into the business world.
The girls were exposed to a morning of talks ranging from self-motivation to managing finances, challenges facing school leavers and how to prepare a CV and making informed career choices.
The pupils were further inspired by key women in business, who have achieved success in various spheres.
Two pupils – Fatima Goga of Birdsview Academy and Nondumiso Biyela of Richards Bay High each walked away with a R25 000 bursary after being placed first and second respectively in the essay competition entitled ‘What does unity mean to you?’.
The bursaries were donated by Eduloan and Memela Pratt & Associates to the winning duo who topped more than 130 essay entrants.
Third, fourth and fifth placed winners were Donne de Vries of Felixton College, Kerina Padayachee of Empangeni High and Aimee Mittemeyer of Felixton College, who each received tablets sponsored by Saryx.
Richards Bay Christian School also received a R2 500 book voucher for their library courtesy of Shanduka Black Umbrellas.
Pupils thanked the BWA for guiding young girls in the right career path.
‘We have understood the true meaning behind Women’s Day. Not only did I gain invaluable wisdom and wonderful prizes but learned about myself and how very capable I am to live a highly successful life. I hope this wonderful initiative continues in the years to come,’ said a Grade 11 pupil.
