Double gold for Mhlathuze Water

EMPLOYEES at Mhlathuze Water are celebrating after the water utility scooped two awards at the annual Careers24 HR Future Awards.
Mhlathuze Water was selected as the South African Employer of Choice (Public Sector), and Human Resources Manager Mandla Myeni emerged as a front runner in the South African HR Manager of the Year category.
Known for seeking out candidates who represent the industry’s cream of the crop, the awards ceremony also recognise teams and organisations for their outstanding achievements in people management.
Myeni’s triumph comes after serving in the HR profession for more than 30 years, and he is said to have played an instrumental role in positioning Mhlathuze Water’s people in the right direction.
‘I am honoured to receive such an award, especially since I am in a profession where I interface directly with the greatest asset of the organisation, which is its people.
‘I believe in empowering my team to determine the ‘how’ in performing a task and focusing on the results rather than micro managing them,’ Myeni said.
The prestigious event was held in Johannesburg last week, and comprised an independent judging panel made up of some of the country’s top professionals.
The water utility’s proud CEO Sibusiso Makhanya said,‘Our HR team continues to implement creative, technology-driven ideas that integrate HR programmes and team-member engagement initiatives.
‘We are committed to our core values and this commitment is displayed throughout the organisation, by both management and employees alike,’ he said.
