A MISSING persons investigation turned into one of murder when eight people were arrested in Mbazwana in connection with an apparent vigilante killing.
After their apprehension, the suspects led police officers to the shallow grave in which they buried Sandile Nxumalo (24). The victim was allegedly accused of theft before being assaulted and killed. The suspects, aged between 19 and 52, were arrested and charged with murder.
Urging communities not to take the law into their own hands, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said, ‘I want to condemn the gruesome acts committed by these suspects, especially their attempts to conceal the crime’.
