THIS is in response to the Letter of the Week in the Monday edition.

I feel the writer generalised by saying that the injured guard who was shot during a CBD robbery, wasn’t properly trained.

It was an unfortunate moment where even the best trained guard would have ended up the same way.

Even opinion pieces need to be substantiated with facts to ensure there is sufficient evidence to back up a claim.

The security guard who was injured works for a company that sends their guards for Regulation 21 Compliance Testing at a local firearm training facility annually.

This includes a compliance test consisting of theoretical questions, practical handling and actual firing of a handgun, which ensures that the guards are properly trained and ready to handle most situations.

I will agree with the writer that many guards are perhaps ill equipped in terms of what they are given to protect themselves.

However, it is too great a generalisation to state that the average guard is under-equipped.
