Author makes the big time with his first novel

Zakhele Mthabela publishes his first book, The Trance.

EMBARKING on a journey of self-discovery, local resident and author Zakhele Mthabela has taken his passion for writing to a spiritual level with the publishing of his first book.

Titled The Trance, his novel shares with readers his spiritual journey during his years at the University of Zululand.

‘While at university I went through many life-changing experiences, one of them being an out-of-body experience while searching for inner peace,’ said Zakhele.

‘This sparked my motivation to write a self-help book for those going through a similar experience.’

Early years

Born and raised on the streets of Enqoleni, a small town outside Empangeni, Zakhele always had a passion for reading and writing.

‘I was drawn to books and most enjoyed reading self-help books.’

‘I wanted to become a doctor, so I studied a BSc double major in microbiology and biochemistry.

‘But things quickly changed in university and my mind began focusing on other things.’

Zakhele, who matriculated at Old Mill High, become engulfed in the social aspects of varsity life.

The book is about a young man who is inspired to take part in a trance in an attempt to find inner peace. He embarks on a spiritual journey which sees him learning new qualities about life, God and himself.
