
AN operation conducted by various stock theft units in KZN together with Crime Intelligence and station officers saw 24 people arrested for various crimes relating to stock theft.
276 animals, all suspected stolen, were recovered in Northern KZN, between 7 and 19 June during the operation.
This according to a statement issued by Major Thulani Zwane, KZN police spokesperson.
‘Police officers conducted suspect raids, farm visits, patrols, stock movement control as well as visits to livestock pounds and abattoirs,’ he said.
A total of 251 cattle, 17 goats, six sheep and two horses were found and returned to their rightful owners.
A pistol and some dagga was also recovered.
Police arrested a total of 24 suspects: 12 for stealing livestock, six for false animal identification, four for possession of dagga, one for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and one for selling liquor without a license.
