POLICE used teargas and rubber bullets to disperse a crowd of angry protestors who barricaded the road and reportedly stoned vehicles near KwaMbonambi town earlier today.
The demonstrators from Ward 8 in KwaMthethwa Reserve blocked the road out of KwaMbonambi, towards Dondotha, toy-toying against what they call ‘unfair’ employment processes.
They say they are fed up with being made ‘fools’ of by their local uMfolozi Municipality, because they feel it neglects them whenever a construction project is launched.
The main bone of contention is the Eteza cross-road bridge on the N2 north of KwaMbonambi), which is already under construction.
The other burning issue is the new Home Affairs building, which is being constructed adjacent to the municipal offices.
The locals cry foul, saying that of 48 workers at the site, only two are from their ward.
They claim people as far away as uMhlabuyalingana and Pongola are employed at the site.
