Harleys take St Lucia
Much fun was had by the 280 bikers who descended on St Lucia, during an otherwise quiet time of year, for the annual Harley St Lucia meet.
REGISTRATION was stopped at 8pm on the first evening of the Harleys annual St Lucia meet, which this year brought 280 bikers to the town during an otherwise quiet time of year.
While up on last year, this number is expected to increase significantly at next year’s 20th anniversary of the event.
The weekend’s festivities included timed drags, both singles and pairs, which took place on the Dukuduku 121 Battalion airstrip.
Games, including throwing a water-filled balloon from the back of the bike over a net, and the slowest ride, also featured on the weekend’s activities menu.
Bike lovers wanting to peruse the metal beasts were welcome, and there were many different bikes on display.
Apart from standard Harley Davidsons, Buell racing bikes were also present.
Former Harley Davidson engineer, Erik Buell, founded the Buell Motorcycle Company which eventually became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harley Davidson.
After producing only 136 923 Buell racing bikes, Harley Davidson announced the discontinuation of the product.
Buell racing bikes’ link with Harley Davidson, however, means owners of these bikes belong to Harley clubs and join in Harley meets.
By all accounts, a great weekend was had by all and everyone in the Harley world is looking forward to next year’s 20th anniversary of the St Lucia Harley meet.
