
A FORMER Amazulu goalkeeper and brother of a Bafana Bafana star player, appeared in the Richards Bay Regional Court last week for the attempted murder of his elderly uncle.
Mandlakayisa Sangweni (27), brother of the Bafana Bafana player, Siyabonga Sangweni, is also charged with the assault of a seven-year-old child and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition on 27 December 2013 at Dondotha, KwaMbonambi.
The State is alleging he hit the child with a piece of rubber, all over his body.
On the same day, he allegedly shot his uncle, Vusumuzi Sangweni, who was then 66 years-old, on the neck and jaw.
According to reports, the shooting was a result of a disagreement on the accused’s birthday.
He is also charged with the possession of a Tauris Brazil 38 special and two live rounds of ammunition, which he was not licensed to hold.
His bail was extended and the matter was postponed to 13 August for trial.
