PRE-SCHOOLERS are no longer receiving day care on the floor of a bare class at the Luhlanga Primary School in the kwesaKwaMthethwa area.
The Zululand Chamber of Business Foundation (ZCBF) recently donated tables, chairs and mattresses to the rural crèche.
‘South Africa is regarded as the most unequal society in the world, marked by high level of poverty and unemployment,’ said ZCBF Executive Manager Dave Whittaker.
‘To tackle these, one of the ways is to look at the issues affecting communities at grassroots level.
‘Early childhood education is the most important aspect in the developmental state of a child.
‘As ZCBF, we firmly believe that education is a societal issue that needs to be tackled by all sectors of society.
‘It starts with these initiatives – investing in little children’s minds that will level playing fields in their future schooling and career paths, where children will not feel disadvantaged because of where they come from.’
