
uMlalazi municipality presented their IDP Review to the public this week.
The review is one of many to be held by the municipality over the coming days around uMlalazi.
Countless projects aimed at revamping uMlalazi and to create job opportunities were mentioned.
One of the first major projects will be the construction of up to 1 000 residential units in Mtunzini.
The cost of the project is estimated to be R1,5-billion and will include the erection of commercial and office space.
The review also re-affirmed the long-awaited King DinuZulu Shopping Centre Development.
With the informal settlement, referred to as KwaMaqedipleti, on the construction site, the building of the centre will need to be handled with care.
Assurance from the municipality that alternative residence will be available for the people residing in the construction site has been given.
The shopping centre, of 16 000m² will cost R165-million and create about 800 jobs during the construction phase and 500 retail jobs.
Another anticipated project is the construction of the 100-bed eShowe private hospital.
The hospital will offer a full range of medical services including general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, gynaecology, ophthalmology, paediatrics, psychiatry, ENT surgery, urology, dermatology, dentistry and a 24-hour emergency trauma unit.
