Record tuna catch by Richards Bay angler

RICHARDS Bay angler Uwe Schmall won a two-hour epic battle with a 111kg yellow fin tuna recently at Hout Bay in Cape Town.

What made this catch so memorable, was the fact that it was only 4kg short of an all Africa record, was the third biggest tuna caught in Hout Bay and the biggest tuna ever caught from a ski boat in South African waters.

Local anglers Robin Vermaak and Lucas Landmann shared the special moment.

Landmann also got some action, landing a 83kg yellow fin tuna.

The three anglers boarded the boat Outrageous, which was skippered by local tuna captain Byron Ashington for a two-day fishing trip.

The anglers managed to catch 15 long fin and smaller yellow fin tunas during the trip.
