AFTER a lengthy postponement, the last witness took the stand on Friday at the Mtubatuba High Court in the trial of Jabulani Dlamini-Ntshangase, accused of raping nine women in four months in the City of uMhlathuze.
Dubbed the ‘City Serial Rapist’, the 41-year-old allegedly posed as a security guard at numerous shopping centres in Empangeni, Esikhaleni and Richards Bay, accused women of shoplifting and, while pretending to show them surveillance footage, lured the victims into the bushes where he would threaten them with a knife, rape them, and flee the scene.
Dlamini-Ntshangase was positively identified in eight of the nine cases of rape against him during an identity parade conducted by the Empangeni SAPS after his arrest last year.
Following his appearance at the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court last July, a decision was taken to transfer the matter to the High Court, owing to the seriousness of the accusations.
Prosecutor Andre Luddick expects judgement to be handed down next week.
