Classes resume at Dover school

Pupils back in class at Dover school

PUPILS are back in class at Dover Farm School following the closure of the school more than a week ago following protests.

Sources say the pupils, who demanded the school principal must step down, had threatened to burn down the school.

The disruption at the school had been going on since before the Easter break.

The conflict has already resulted in two water tanks at the school being set light, and attempts to stone and torch teachers’ vehicles.

uThungulu District Education Director David Chonco said, ‘In the meeting held between the parents, the SMT and the education authorities on Friday, a decision was taken that pupils had to return to class on Monday, and teaching is currently underway.

‘Primary school pupils though, will be back in class on Wednesday (today) because we want to ensure that everything normalises first before they return,’ said Chonco.
