Zululander excels at Stellenbosch University
Former Felixton College pupil named the top first-year student in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University.
‘I am truly humbled, though this is not my achievement – all glory goes to God.’
These were the words of Zululand’s Estè Louw who was named the top first-year student in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University last year.
Estè, who hails from Hluhluwe and matriculated at Felixton College in 2013, received an award for being one of the university’s 32 top performing 2014 first-year students from all faculties.
The Vice Rector Teaching and Learning, Professor Arnold Schoonwinkel, presented the award to her during the first-year prestige evening on 18 March at the Neethlingshof Estate.
Currently studying Occupational Therapy, Estè first put Zululand on the national map when she attained 100% in both maths and maths 3 during her matric year.
She received nine distinctions and an average of 97%, and seems to continue in the same vein.
‘I can only give the glory to Jesus’, she remarked when asked how she manages to keep it up.
When informed about her achievements, she was overwhelmed as it was quite unexpected.
‘I did not think I would be among the top achievers, but it has definitely been the cherry on the top.’
After the excitement, Estè stumbled upon a Bible verse which best described her achievement: ‘The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord’ – Proverbs 21:31.
Estè is currently doing her second year at the Tygerberg campus and receives continuous support from her parents and brothers back home.
