Thanda back with a bang

Thanda Royal Zulu beat FC Cape Town yesterday afternoon.

THANKS to a hat trick from Ace Bhengu, Thanda Royal Zulu revived their NFD title hopes with a stunning 4-1 win away over FC Cape Town yesterday afternoon.

Bhengu struck once in the first half and twice in the second to take his personal tally to 19 goals for the season.

Jabuleni Ngcobeni was the other scorer for Amabhubesi, while the home side’s sole response was a first half penalty.

Thanda desperately needed a win after they surrendered a 1-0 lead and concede two late goals as they went down 1-2 to Milano United in Cape Town – their third consecutive loss.

A sequence of away games, the club’s financial concerns and a change of head coach at this late stage of the season have certainly not helped their cause.

That said, they have not played badly despite the losses and with less bad luck and fewer dubious decisions against them, could quite easily have won all three.

After Wednesday’s games, the NFD top of the table log standings were:

1 Golden Arrows (46 points), 2 Jomo Cosmos (45pts), 3 Thanda (44pts), 4 Black Leopards (41pts), 5 CT All Stars (41pts), 6 Milano United (39pts), 7 FC Cape Town (38pts).

Arrows have a game in hand over Thanda, who have four remaining fixtures:

25 April vs African Warriors (A)

29 April vs Golden Arrows (H)

3 May vs Jomo Cosmos (A)

10 May vs Garankuwa United (H).
