THERE was a silver lining to the dark cloud that shrouded Thanda Royal Zulu’s 0-2 loss to Black Leopards on Wednesday, with the other title chasers also failing to take maximum available points.
Log leaders Golden Arrows were held to a 0-0 draw against Baroka FC, while Jomo Cosmos were embarrassed by a 2-3 defeat to lowly Witbank Spurs – this after being 3-0 down at one stage.
This meant the 1-2-3 spots on the NFD table before the weekend’s round of matches stood at Golden Arrows (46 points), Jomo Cosmos (42) and Thanda (41).
Amabhubesi have beaten both Cosmos and Arrows this season and will meet them again at the uMhlathuze Stadium before the season ends.
With all teams having played 24 games before the weekend, Leopards were 4th (40 points), CT All Stars 5th (40) and FC Cape Town 6th (38).
What last week’s results do prove is that the National First Division is becoming extremely competitive, with teams at the top end fighting for promotion and those at the bottom battling for survival.
There is now no such thing as an easy match, and upsets will continue to be the order of the day as clubs go head-to-head in the remaining fixtures.
After Sunday, Thanda’s remaining games are:
• April 18 v FC Cape Town (home)
• April 25 v African Warriors (away)
• April 29 v Golden Arrows (home)
• May 3 v Jomo Cosmos (home)
• May 10 v Garankuwa Utd (home).
