THE group of six teens arrested in Empangeni last week for house break-ins in and theft, made their first appearance at the Empangeni Magistrate Court on Wednesday for a preliminary enquiry.
The boys, aged between 14 and 16, were initially held in police custody, but were later released and placed in the care of their legal guardians.
According to the court, a residing probation officer is compiling a comprehensive assessment report which will be evaluated once complete.
The boys remain in guardian custody until further notice.
Following a burglary at a Kildare home, two of the six boys were arrested two houses away from the targeted home, while the remaining four were arrested at their homes at KwaMsane later that day.
SAPS K9 reservist Sergeant Kenny Sloane, together with Wynand Swart from Tracker, apprehended the boys and retrieved most of the stolen possessions.
