Zululand’s next top model

Student journalist, SAMANTHA JOHNSTON chats to Yizo Dlamini, a contestant in the Miss Teen Queen Face of KZN 2015 pageant.

YIZO Dlamini is a Grade 10 pupil at Grantleigh and will be competing for the Miss Teen Queen Face of KZN 2015 crown.

Samantha Johnson caught up with her to find out a bit more about her passion for modelling.

When did you first start modelling?

I first started when I was 10, but because of my low self-confidence back then I quit for three years and restarted when I was 13.

What about modelling appeals most to you?

I love that modelling isn’t just about beauty, but also about learning to love yourself and gain self-confidence.

Would you like to pursue it as a career once you’re done with school?

I would like to receive my degree in commercial law and hopefully receive my masters before pursuing a career as an international fashion model.

Who in the industry do you admire most?

Naomi Campbell

Could you take us through the judging process for Miss Teen Queen Face of KZN?

A panel of judges will determine the top three winners for each section.

Once our entries were received, our photos were also uploaded onto Facebook. So, there is an award for the photo with the most likes called ‘Miss Popular’.

The winners will receive crowns, sashes and prizes and will automatically be entered into the KZN King and Queen pageant.

Any other titles you have been awarded in the past?

As I only began taking it seriously last year, I chose not to compete as I felt I would be putting too much pressure on myself before I was ready.

What other hobbies do you have besides modelling?

I love hanging out with people who radiate positive vibes. I also enjoy listening to music, dancing, reading and looking up the latest fashion trends.
