Back to the drawing board for Bay rugby
Richards Bay 1 went down 19-18 to Vryheid 1 in a pre-season friendly played in Richards Bay.
RICHARDS Bay head coach Graham Beukes and his men will have to go back to the drawing board to do some fine-tuning after a soft 19-18 defeat against Vryheid in a pre-season friendly played at the Richards Bay Rugby Club on Saturday.
The home team fielded an inexperienced front row that failed to hold their own at scrum time.
Despite this, poor ball handling mixed with failure to secure the ball at the breakdowns were concerning.

This kept Vryheid in the game.
The first half was riddled with mistakes.
The visitors got onto the scoreboard first through an unconverted try, but this was soon followed up by a try in the corner from Richards Bay fullback Jimmy Enslin to square matters at 5-5 at the interval.
The second half saw Richards Bay up their game a notch, which resulted in points on the board.
Enslin dotted down twice for the home boys, with flyhalf JP Rossouw slotting a penalty to take the lead to 18-5.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Vryheid scored a 50m intercept try under the poles to take the score to 18-12.
The last 10 minutes of the game was all Vryheid.
The pressure resulted in another try which was converted to take the score to 19-18.
Earlier in the day, Richards Bay 3 got hammered 45-17 by Unizul, with Richards Bay 2 smashing Vryheid (2) 27-0.
