Teen drowns in Nyalazi River

FIFTEEN-year-old Vusi Mavimbe of Mfekayi near Mtubatuba drowned while swimming with friends in the Nyalazi River on Saturday afternoon.

Mavimbe and his friends allegedly went to the river with Mavimbe’s 19-year-old sister who was doing washing.

While the friends were swimming, the deceased’s sister said she heard a voice from a nearby bridge saying a child was drowning.

When she reached the area where the children were swimming, they told her it was her brother who was drowning.

The person who witnessed the drowning from the bridge attempted to rescue Mavimbe but by the time the body was recovered, Mavimbe was no longer alive.

A case of drowning has been opened by KwaMsane SAPS but no foul play is suspected.
