
CONVICTED rapist Sfiso Nhlenyama (22) was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment in the eSikhawini Regional Court, after he was found guilty of raping a 6-year-old girl.
The incident occurred in 2012, when the victim was left under the care of her mother’s friend.
After reporting the rape to the Eskhawini SAPS, the case was transferred to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation.
The suspect was arrested and charged with rape.
Commenting on the conviction and sentencing, KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonyane Ngobeni said, ‘While we continue to send criminals who prey on our children to jail, we plead with parents to take measures to ensure that their children are not exposed to such predators.’
