Change of guard at Zululand Squash

Zululand Squash welcomes new chairperson Pieter Lourens.

THE Zululand squash fraternity has lauded outgoing chairperson Klaas Vuyk for his dedication and contribution to the sport in the region.

Serving as chairman of Zululand Squash for the past 20 years, Vuyk’s commitment to developing young players was acknowledged by his peers.

Pieter Lourens, who has now taken over the reins as chairman, thanked Vuyk for his mentorship and saluted him for the many accolades he attained over the years.

‘We would like to thank Klaas Vuyk for his 20 years of service as Chairman of Zululand Squash. His commitment to squash has been an inspiration to many,’ said Lourens.

Over the years, Vuyk played 1st League for the Richards Bay Country Club, later moving to 2nd League where he retired.

He was also the Squash Chairperson of the Richards Bay Country Club for seven years.

Vuyk played an active role in the coaching of juniors and ladies.

He organised and participated in many tournaments over the years and will continue to participate in SA Masters IPT.

His squash career reached its peak in 2013 where at the National Squash Convention in Johannesburg, Vuyk received the SA Squash Honours Award for the Best Chairman/Organiser and for his commitment to the development of squash in Zululand.
