MEMBERS of the Zululand Shore Angling Association took to the waters this past weekend to compete in their monthly league common venue competition.
With next to perfect conditions and reports of Butterfly Rays biting in the area, Mtunzini AC – the hosting club – decided to fish the eight-hour competition.
The 7km stretch was from the Mlalazi River mouth to the third stream along the Port Durnford beach.
A total of 60 anglers from the seven represented clubs participated and 9.155 tons of fish was recorded with the majority being Butterfly Rays. These were measured and returned live to the water.
Richards Bay Angling Club A team claimed first spot with 2 584 weight points. The overall top angler went to Clinton Woodley of Richards Bay AC, who scored 618 weight points.
Top master went to Johan van Ede of Umzingazi AC, who tallied up 604 weight points.

Hosted by Umzingazi AC, the next competition will be on 28 and 29 March and the format is a common venue.
