Take our town back from the criminals

IT is with horror and disgust that on a daily basis I get email after email from the Community Policing Forum informing me of the crime wave that seems to be a constant in Meerensee, especially the streets of Kite Fish, Pinkie Pool and surrounding areas.

How long must this go on?

When will the community and the relevant authorities rally and deal with the problem at its source?

The problem stems from the ‘veld’ bordering Anglers Rod and the beaches, where entrances have now been closed.

What amazes me is that the municipality barricaded the entrances which affords the criminals complete privacy while pillaging their ill gotten gains.

We have created a sanctuary for ‘them’.

There needs to be regular patrols through these ‘veld’ areas to curb this ongoing problem.

We need an initial assessment by air to identify the problem areas and then a ‘clean-up’ to root out the ‘camps’ – and then undertake regular follow-up patrols to deal with this problem.

Why not open the beaches for the fishermen? Is it too much trouble for our municipality to post roaming guards outside holidays?

And please, let’s stop using the excuse of the dunes being eroded. Clearly this has not affected Five-mile Beach which is regularly used by fisherman and the like.

Also, why is it easier just to close the beach entrances rather than deal with the issue.

The problem has been exacerbated by the local authorities turning a blind eye to this clearly ongoing problem which is not going to fix itself anytime soon if we continue to create areas where criminals can hide and thrive.

Let’s take our town back from these criminals!
