Thanda takes KZN derby

Thanda Royal Zulu beat Royal Eagles 2-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban yesterday.

THANDA negotiated a tricky trip to King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday with a decisive 2-0 win over neighbours Royal Eagles at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.

Goal machine Ace Bhengu slotted a penalty on 45 minutes and Mthokozisi Nene added the second just before the break for a well-deserved victory.

Although the second half was scoreless, Thanda dominated throughout and were worthy winners.

Both KZN teams had been enjoying a good run of form of late, Eagles having won five of their last six and looking to join the promotion race.

The teams drew 1-1 in their first meeting earlier this season.

The three points are just what coach Valdislav Heric asked for and depending on the outcome of the Golden Arrows vs Santos and Jomo Cosmos vs African Warriors matches, could have propelled them to top of the NFD log.

Ahead of Amabhubesi lies a home game this Saturday against mid-table Santos at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex followed by another away trip to tackle the dangerous Cape Town All Stars on 14 March.

The march to PSL promotion is very much in progress.

Mthokozisi Nene grabbed the second goal as Thanda Royal Zulu FC enjoyed a vital 2-0 win over Royal Eagles on Wednesday
