AN awaiting trial rape suspect was shot by a duty police officer when attempting to escape from the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court shortly after 3pm yesterday.
The man tried to run towards the taxi rank but was shot in the shoulder.
According to people at the scene, the man still tried to abscond even after he was shot, but was overpowered.
He was taken to hospital under police guard after being treated by EMRS medics.
