PONGOLA police officers have arrested another rogue colleague, an Ulundi officer found to have been complicit in an armed robbery on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on the N2 near Pongola when a truck driver was confronted by three men in an unmarked light delivery vehicle.
The three, one of whom was dressed in police uniform, robbed the driver of his cellphone and attempted to break open a safe on the truck.
Failing to do so, the three suspects fled the scene and the Pongola police were notified.
Pongola police officers tracked down the vehicle and gave chase until the suspects lost control of their vehicle and fled into a nearby sugarcane field.
After an intensive search all three suspects were apprehended and a 9mm Beretta pistol, reportedly belonging to the off-duty Ulundi police officer, was recovered.
