A MAN reported to have sexually assaulted a Richards Bay woman in her Veldenvlei home early on Friday morning, is still at large.
This despite an extensive search over the past 48 hours by both the SAP and Community Policing Initiative groups in several suburbs.
The assault took place just before 6am on Friday after the woman had seen her husband off to work.
The victim, reported to be in her fifties, was confronted by an unknown male in her bedroom.
The suspect, described as ‘a slightly built man, probably in his twenties and dressed in dark blue jeans’, threatened to use a knife then allegedly tied her up before sexually assaulting her and stealing items including the watch she was wearing, before fleeing from the premises.
The traumatised female somehow managed to make a telephone call and was eventually untied and assisted with medical treatment and counselling before being taken to hospital.
‘Within minutes, the SAP and CPI groups of Arboretum and Veldenvlei were on the scene combing the area and trying to locate the suspect.
‘We immediately circulated an identikit after getting a description of his clothing,’ said CPI Suburb Manager for Arboretum, Riaan Lombard.
