AN out of town internet buyer is R35 000 out of pocket after ‘buying’ two Nyala ewes from a business premises…in Dollar Drive!
Richards Bay police received the complaint from the person who had been skinned after doing the deal online.
The seller advertised his ‘game farm’ to be located at 188 Dollar Drive – a street that’s numbers only go as far as 155.
He wanted R70 000 for a pair of ewes and accepted half that amount as a down payment.
Needless to say, once the money had been deposited, all contact was lost with the seller.
‘This is happening more and more often, and people need to be wary of parting with money online,’ said SAPS Captain Dilip Hurripersad.
‘We see it especially with cars; people paying deposits for cars they have only seen in photos.
‘Another scam is with accommodation. Wonderful images of beautiful apartments and rooms are advertised and the person who laid out money ends up in a pigsty.’
