Pongola poaching plot foiled

Two suspected rhino poachers arrested.

TWO suspected rhino poachers were arrested in Pongola before the crime could be carried out.

The Durban Organised Crime Unit and Special Task Force conducted an intelligence-driven operation which led to the arrest of two suspected rhino poachers, as well as the recovery of a .375 hunting rifle, ammunition and an axe.

Gathered information revealed Zwelakhe Mavimbela (26) and Sizwe Nkosi (30) had planned to poach two rhinos in a Pongola game reserve.

After their arrest, Mavimbela and Nkosi were detained at Pongola Police Station where they were charged with illegal hunting of rhinos and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

They appeared at Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were remanded in custody until Friday for bail application.
