WITH the summer sun beating down with force, schools need to be extra careful about allowing pupils to go outside in the heat or attending afternoon sport.

I have heard of, and been part of many cases of children collapsing or suffering dehydration because their teachers or sports coaches are encouraging them to continue with sport despite soaring temperatures.

I think some schools forget that even though their sport is important, it is the children that suffer and the parents who have to pay the medical bills.

I really feel that schools must take extra precaution this summer and avoid having the pupils out in the sun unnecessarily.
