A MAN who claimed to be a police officer caused consternation at 5Ways Mall in Empangeni on Sunday afternoon when shoppers thought a robbery was in progress after police swooped in.
According to reports, the man intending to take a loan and produced a fraudulent appointment certificate to a retail outlet assistant.
Empangeni SAPS members were tipped off and he was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer.
The accused is currently in police custody and expected to appear at the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court this week.
