Facelift for Port Durnford service centre
A new lease on life for Port Durnford Thusong Service Centre.
THE Port Durnford community entered 2015 with some good news.
After years of neglect and becoming an eyesore, the Port Durnford Thusong Service Centre is to be given a facelift thanks to a partnership between the uMhlathuze Municipality and Richards Bay Minerals (RBM).
At a handover event held on Wednesday, RBM Projects Manager Rudi Corver pledged the company’s commitment to upgrade the facility, making it the ‘nerve centre’ for the community.
The centre is equipped with a community hall, a crèche, youth services hall, a stadium and buildings that could be used as offices.
Three contractors will be employed to refurbish the facility. Fence repair, building refurbishment and electrical installations will be among the priorities.
‘In our bid to empower local communities, we hired local contractors.
‘RBM has donated R4-million to this project and as a company which does its business among these local communities, we are determined in our unwavering dedication to make the lives of the people better,’ said Corver.
