PINK-CLAD visitors and residents of St Lucia took to the streets on 30 December for the annual 5km Pink Bra Walk to raise money for the town’s cancer sufferers.
The 2014 walk attracted 137 entries, a notable increase on 2013’s 56 participants. Funds raised totaled R9 060, which came from T-shirt sales, entry fees for the walk, cool drink and food sales, and a separate donation box. This was also a notable increase on 2013’s R5 200 profit. All funds go towards cancer sufferers living in St Lucia who need help with food parcels and travel to and from the hospital.
Starting at Reef and Dune restaurant on the main road, visitors and residents, both humans and canines, participated enthusiastically in the 5km walk along St Lucia’s residential roads and through the iGwalagwala Trail.
Called the Pink Bra Walk for a reason, it is customary for participants to be creative and wear anything pink in the absence of a pink bra.
The annual event was started in December 2013 and is held in memory of St Lucia’s own Cenessa Stork who lost her battle against breast cancer in early 2013.
