St Catherine’s Dux scores 7 distinctions
Nikki van der Walt's motto in life - 'Stop complaining and get involved'.
HARD work and dedication paid off for St Catherine’s top achiever Nikki van der Walt.
She didn’t expect it, but when the matric results were released, she was the proud receiver of seven distinctions.
The 2014 matric Dux received distinctions for English, Afrikaans, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, life sciences and physical sciences.
‘I worked very hard, but it’s still such a surprise!’ said Nikki.
Truly dedicated, afternoons after school were spent in the science laboratory going through each subject.
‘School days were long, so I decided to be productive and use my extra time towards studying.’
Among other achievements, Nikki was the top student in KZN at the Accounting Olympiad, which made a huge impact on her exam. She also received Senior Fellowship and Good Sportsmanship awards at the annual senior prize-giving in October.
The perfect example of an all-rounder, the former first team hockey player is putting her focus towards physiotherapy. She begins her first year at the University of Pretoria next week. Her goal is to receive her Masters and later specialise in sport.
‘My goal is to do travel physiotherapy and work at major events such as the Tour de France and, in time, work at a hospital,’ said Nikki.
Nikki’s motto of ‘stop complaining and get involved’ is a good reminder for future matriculants gearing up for the ride.
‘You need to stay focused if you wish to achieve.’
