It’s lucky number seven for Nkanyiso

Nkanyiso tops Khula High School results with seven distinctions.

‘IF my mother was still alive, she would be proud.’

That was the first thought of an emotional Nkanyiso Sikhulile Mpanza (17) from Khula High School after he received his matric results.

With seven distinctions in his pocket, Nkanyiso outshone his schoolmates, proving that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.

Even though he lost his mother when he was in Grade 5, the top achiever said the support of his uncle and aunt pulled him through and motivated him.

‘My family has always been there for me, and they always made sure I received everything I needed.

‘I never expected to get seven distinctions, I only thought I would do great in maths. Competing with my classmates was the main thing that kept me on my toes. I always wanted to be on top,’ said Nkanyiso.

This year he will study towards a degree in Chemical Engineering at Mangosuthu University of Technology.

‘I want to come back and work in Richards Bay with companies that helped us when we were in school. When I’m done with my studies I want to work where I can still help my community,’ he said.
