Nine distinctions for Thalia
Not only did she get As for all her subjects, but Thalia Pillay also received the Dux award.
MTUBATUBA pupil Thalia Pillay, who went to high school near Durban, started the year on a high – achieving an impressive nine As in her finals.
Pillay was a weekly boarder at St Mary’s DSG where her continual hard work throughout her high school career eventually paid off.
Not only did she get As for all her subjects, but Pillay also received the Dux award.
Pillay’s impressive results included 99% for maths, 92% for English, 81% for Afrikaans, 89% for life sciences, 94% for physical science, 94% for accounting, 84% for life orientation, 84% for practical music and 90% for advanced programming maths.
Pillay said she didn’t stress too much for her final exams as she had already been accepted by the University of Cape Town (UCT) and knew she would achieve the required results.
She had no idea how well she had done until the results came out. Holidaying with her family in Iceland when the results were released, Pillay was pleasantly surprised with her achievements.
Looking forward to starting her tertiary education career, Pillay will head down to Cape Town at the beginning of February where she will begin her four-year Bachelor of Science degree in mechatronic engineering.
A combination of mechanical and electrical engineering, including computer programming, mechatronic engineering will lead Pillay into a career in the biomedical engineering field, or perhaps sustainable energy.
