New year resolutions for the nation

INSTEAD of focusing on my personal new year’s resolutions, I would like to submit a list on behalf of all the following parties:

• Politicians – be they national, provincial or local – undertake to serve the people of South Africa ahead of their own self interests

• Politicians and government service officials – accept that acts of bribery and corruption are against the law and stop the practice costing the country billions

• Agencies responsible for identifying and charging those guilty of corruption – execute their duties without fear or favour

• Teachers, nursing staff, police officers and civil servants lacking a work ethic – admit they are enemies of the South African people and do the right thing by resigning

• Union leaders – undertake to put the interests of the workers and country first by adopting a mature approach towards negotiations

• Reckless road users – realise they are potential killers and adopt a road safety first approach from this day onwards

• Parents – love their children and spend time with them to help restore a culture of family values

There are many others, but just starting with the above will already make a huge difference with regards to the nation’s well being.
