Divers search for children in Bay Hall waters

Two children are missing, presumed to have drowned in Richards Bay.

TWO families are anxiously watching as police divers search for their missing children in the jet ski area opposite the Bay Hall.

The 9-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy went missing in separate incidents after last being seen in the water at about 7pm on New Year’s Day, after lifeguards had gone off duty.

They were not seen since and are presumed to have drowned.

Witnesses pointed out a spot to divers where they said the boy had swum to in an attempt to reach marker buoys about 100 metres from the shore.

Although the area is quite shallow and safe, it does deepen suddenly towards the middle of the bay.

The divers started early this morning and are continually re-entering the water in a search that has thus far proved fruitless.

Meanwhile their desperate families are hoping the children may have left the Bay Hall with other people and may yet return home alive.
