A CASE of culpable homicide has been opened by Mtubatuba police after a woman died when two taxis collided on the R618 in Mtubatuba yesterday morning.
The accident occurred at about 7am at the T-junction where the R618 splits en route to St Lucia.
According to Communications Officer for Mtubatuba SAPS, Lieutenant Mpontshane, the driver of one of the taxis failed to stop at the T-junction, crashing into the other.
One female passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while a further five were treated for their injuries by paramedics before being transported to Hlabisa Hospital for further care.
