BIG smiles and sighs of relief broke out for Felixton College pupils who achieved outstanding results in their IEB (Independent Examinations Board) matric examinations, announced this morning.
But not everyone could match the excitement of Felixton’s top achiever Michael Raphael, who celebrated seven distinctions.
Not expecting such an outstanding achievement, Michael narrowly missed his 8th distinction by only 1%, obtaining 79% for Afrikaans.
His subject ‘A’ successes were for Engineering and Graphics Design, English, Information Technology, Life Orientation, Mathematics, Advanced Programme Maths and Physical Sciences.
‘I was disappointed in losing out on my 8th distinction, but it’s good to know how close I came. I am still very happy with my seven’, said Michael.

Apart from dedicating many hours to his studies, Michael paid tribute to his family who have been a ‘major support system’, including his older brother, Felixton College past pupil David.
He added his accomplishment would not have been possible without his teachers and their valuable guidance.
A perfect combination of brain and brawn, the former 1st team rugby captain has focused his interests on computers and will study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town next year.
He hopes to one day start his own company.
‘If you want to get far you have to do your own thing,’ said Michael.
‘My motto in life is dedication. Even if your hard work does not reap rewards, you should still be dedicated in what you do.’
Felixton College Headmaster Craig Neave said he was very pleased with the results and praised Michael’s achievements.

100% pass rate
Neave also noted that the school was just as proud of all their other pupils’ distinctions.
Felixton accomplished a 100% pass rate, 85% Bachelor Degree passes and 42 subject distinctions.
Other Felixton College top achievers include Telika Andhee and Roqwel Aidan who both received five distinctions.
‘We are very pleased with these results, especially coming from our small school,’ said Neave.
‘I feel this is a very good platform to build on as our pupils excel not only academically, but also on the sports field and in cultural sectors.’
