A MAN was beaten to death in Khula Village near St Lucia on Saturday morning in what appears to have been a vigilante attack.
The man, whose identity is currently unknown to the police, was attacked at about 6.30am last Saturday by a gang of five in an area known as ‘White City’.
The deceased, estimated to be aged between 25 and 27, had been beaten with sticks and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
According to the five suspects arrested on the same day, they attacked the deceased because he was attempting to break into one of their houses.
They appeared in the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning. Their names and ages have not yet been released, however it was confirmed that one suspect is being held under house arrest as he is only 17 years old.
All five have been charged with murder.
