International swimmers train in Richards Bay

Three swimmers are training for next year's international circuit and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

THREE international swimmers are currently training at the Arboretum swimming pool over the festive season in preparation for next year’s international circuit and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Finish swimmers Claudia Avist (17) and Johanna Silvento (17) joined their coach Eeva Ketola on holiday in Richards Bay.

Ketola bumped into uShaka swimming coach Francois Boshoff, who invited them to join his swimmers at the local pool.

Ketola went to Richards Bay High School in 1984 before immigrating to Finland in the following.

She is the current head coach of the Lappeenranta and junior national Finish swimming teams.

Eeva is helping Avist and Silvento to qualify for the 2016 Olympic games in the 100m butterfly event.

Joining them at their training sessions is Kristofor Tengstrom (17) from Australia.

The Canberra swimmer, who competes in the 400m freestyle event, is down on holiday in the Bay and joined up with the talented duo.

All three swimmers train twice a day in the pool for two hours, five times a week and three times a week in the gym.

The swimmers will head back home on 7 January.
