Baby girl dumped at taxi rank

A two-day-old infant was found in Richards Bay.

AN abandoned two-day-old baby girl was found at the Richards Bay CBD taxi rank last Tuesday afternoon.

A street vendor found the child laying at the rank and immediately called the police.

Richards Bay SAPS Trauma Centre volunteer, Sharon Mdletshe, said the mother of the child is known and the police have taken her into custody.

It is reported the girl gave birth on Monday morning in a toilet in eSikhawini.

‘This is just one of the many cases we have to deal with over the festive season,’ said Mdletshe.

The baby was taken to the Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Provincial Hospital for the necessary check-ups.

Further investigations are underway.
