Baby dumped in Empangeni CBD
Abandoned baby admitted to hospital for medical attention.

A BABY girl believed to be about two months old was found abandoned at the busy hub of Empangeni near the Boxer store.
A customer going about her business noticed the child and took her to the Empangeni SAPS who subsequently admitted her to Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Regional Hospital (LUWMRH) for medical attention.
‘A case of child neglect has been opened, no arrests have been made and no one has come forward as yet.
‘This is a serious incident, as following investigations the charge could be amended to attempted murder,’ said Empangeni SAPS Spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.
LUWMRH Public Relations officer, Nompilo Xaba said social workers appointed by the Department of Health are also investigating the matter.
‘The little girl is in a stable condition. The hospital has donated clothes to her, as well as a compassionate mother whose baby is in the same unit.
‘When she found out that the had been abandoned, she bought several necessities for the baby,’ said Xaba.
The infant is expected to remain in hospital while investigations continue and once discharged will be placed in a place of safety under the care of a designated social worker.
