Teachers discourage pupils from attending school
Hundreds of Zululand pupils have been left loitering after exams.
PARENTS across the district have questioned why their children have been told to stay home after writing exams instead of using valuable time to get a head start on the new academic year.
A concerned parent told the Zululand Observer that some teachers have ‘victimised’ pupils who have been attending classes.
‘Teachers do not write messages in homework books requesting us not to bring our children to school,’ said a parent.
‘Instead, they make it unbearable for them to be there by instructing them sleep on their desks and not allowing them to use the library and media centre because no teachers are present there to teach them.
‘Instead of modelling them to be faithful to duty and responsible, they are actually punished for coming to school.
‘Remarks insinuating that parents do not like their children and hence do not want them at home is absurd. The sore point is that my child has been mocked for showing up at school since the last week of November when the exams ended,’ the irate parent said.
Richards Bay principals told the Zululand Observer that parents must report such incidents to the school so these can be investigated and teachers in question be dealt with accordingly.
‘No teacher is allowed to have an idle class. We have continued with teaching pupils as usual after the exams,’ one princiapl said.
